I worked on the television show Dan Dare in the early 2000's. The show was created for the BBC in England. It was funded by none other than Elton John who was a big fan of the comics and wanted to bring the characters into the world as an ALL cgi television show. Originally Netter digital was tapped to create the episodes. At that time i was working along side the show at Netter digital, fully engaged in the All cgi show called Max steel which was funded by sony. Netter went bankrupt. Luckily the sister company foundation imaging which had alot of the same crew picked it up. After the bankruptcy I got hired by foundation to work on twisted metal black for the play station 2 cut scenes. Once that was done i migrated over to Dan Dare for 3 whole episodes. I did great work on the show as a layout artist. My role was to bring in 3 to 6 motion captured characters into sets that I laid out. Sets usually came with generic lighting so i also had to light per shot to shot basis. Any vfx were also my responsibility such as 20 missile contrails fom shots with ships firing at portals. In one shot the instruction was just make it feel huge for a shot with a Saturn sky creature. I kept the camera close and had the creature fly by using morph targets to bend it ala how a whale moves - and the result was one of the more iconic shots of the episode where the cloud creature flys by super close with a shakey camera. The supervisor loved it! He goes "you certainly made it feel huge!! Good job!". Other VFx was creating the take off flares and exhaust for ships like the quasar blasting off in a quick getaway. Making an interactive exaust paid off as the ships escape looked nice and hot.
